The 2020 Buick Encore GX is a midsize three-row crossover that's a hit with buyers at the Hamilton Township GMC dealer, thanks to outstanding road manners, a roomy cabin and a nice set of standard features. For 2020, the Acadia gets a more aggressive face. Last year's six-speed transmission is replaced with a new nine-speed automatic gearbox that delivers fast acceleration and higher fuel economy figures. The Acadia's new available turbocharged four-cylinder engine is a welcome addition, and there's a new off-road-focused AT4 trim level.

Buyers at dealerships like Hamilton Township GMC can get the 2020 Buick Encore GX in one of five trim levels: SL, SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali. All trims get the new nine-speed automatic transmission and all models but the AT4 come with standard front-wheel drive. The AT4 gets all-wheel drive standard, and all trims other than the base SL have available all-wheel drive. We'll take a look at the different models and see what each one brings to the table.

Encore GX Preferred

Buyers can get the 2020 Buick Encore GX in one of three trim levels, listed as Preferred, Select and Essence. There are two turbocharged engines to choose from. The base powerplant is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit that makes 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque that's teamed to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). An available 1.3-liter three-cylinder engine develops 155 horses and 174 lb-ft of torque, teamed to a nine-speed automatic transmission. This block is optional on models with front-wheel drive, and is standard on all-wheel-drive models.

EPA-estimated fuel economy figures aren't available as of the time of this writing. According to the Buick dealer in Hamilton Township, combined numbers should be in the area of 31 mpg combined.*

Encore GX Select

The Encore GX Select trim comes with even more features, including 18-inch machined aluminum wheels with High Gloss Dark Android pockets, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, heated front seats, a blind-spot monitor, roof rails, and a trial subscription to SiriusXM radio. The Select also includes additional drive assistance features, such as rear cross traffic alert and lane change alert with side blind zone alert.

The base Preferred trim comes with a nice standard feature set, including fog lamps, halogen taillamps, heated power outside mirrors, climate control, 16-inch steel wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel,  front bucket seats, a six-way manual driver seat, a four-way manual fold-flat front passenger seat, a 40/60 split-folding rear bench seat, power door locks, keyless ignition and door locks, and cruise control. Also standard is a 4.2-inch color driver information center, an audio system with six speakers, Bluetooth, an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, OnStar connected services, USB charge ports and a rear vision camera.

The cabin stays quiet, thanks to standard active noise cancellation, while the Teen Driver system keeps younger drivers safe. The standard Buick Driver Confidence suite of safety features includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, a following distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and IntelliBeam headlamps with automatically adjusting high and low beams.
