Fuel Economy
With the rising cost of fuel, it makes sense to buy a fuel-efficient vehicle. If you're looking to save a bit of change at the pump, the Acadia is the clear choice. The Acadia's base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine gets EPA-estimated fuel economy rated at 21 mpg city/26 mpg highway with four-wheel drive and 21 mpg city/25 mpg highway with all-wheel drive. Compare this with the Ford Explorer, which has a base 3.5-liter V6 that only returns 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway with four-wheel drive and 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway with all-wheel drive.

Dimensions
The GMC Acadia is a lot thinner than the Ford Explorer, which makes it easier fit into a parking space in a crowded parking lot. The Acadia is also somewhat shorter than the Explorer, which may also make the Acadia easier to park.
Passenger Space
The Acadia's second-row passengers will be more comfortable than those riding in the Explorer. The GMC Acadia has 39.6 inches of headroom and 39.7 inches of legroom in the second row, which is more than you'll get in the same row of the Explorer.
We understand that appearance is subjective, but the GMC Acadia is a better-looking vehicle than the Ford Explorer. The Acadia was completely redesigned for the 2017 model year, while the Explorer is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. Its last redesign was in 2011. Additionally, the 2019 GMC Acadia comes with a choice of 10 exciting exterior paint colors, including Red Quartz Tintcoat, Smokey Quartz Metallic and Iridium Metallic. The 2019 Ford Explorer only has eight paint colors to choose from.

Our Final Word
The 2019 GMC Acadia and the 2019 Ford Explorer are both excellent midsize SUVs, but if you're looking for a crossover that's less expensive, gets better fuel economy, is more maneuverable and is easier on the eye, you'll choose the GMC Acadia.
