THE HISTORY OF BURNS AUTOMOTIVE GROUP

The portrait displayed is of William Burns, who founded Broad Street Pontiac in Newark, NJ in 1933.
William Burns was born in Warsaw Poland in 1898 and at a young age emigrated with his mother to the Lower East Side of Manhattan. William Pursued the American dream of owning his own business. He started working as a trolley driver, a chauffeur and eventually found the work that he love... selling cars.
In 1925 he bought a Used Car lot on Broad Street in Newark, NJ and several years later as a result of his innovative attention to customer service, he was awarded the Pontiac franchise. This quickly became a successful family business with sons Robert and Edward joining the business.
The Burns family moved the dealership to White Horse Pike in Oaklyn NJ in 1970.
Tragically, Robert Burns died suddenly and Edward Burns brought in a partner, Richard Kull, to help continue to grow the business and the Burns-Kull Auto Group was "born." Burns Pontiac moved to the current Marlton location in 1973.
A lot has changed in the 80 years since William Burns founded the company with 5 employees. The Burns-Kull Auto Group now employs over 500 people in South Jersey with locations in Marlton, Vineland, Avalon and also in Oaklyn…just two blocks from the original South Jersey location of Burns Pontiac!
The company's growth and its heritage of customer service are tributes to the vision of William Burns, our Founder.
